Everyone is familiar with the phrases equal pay for equal work and pay equity. Did you know large unions made deals with government when the pay equity legislation was rolled out and the findings on many classifications compared to similar classifications equated to real raises or adjustments. Some people may have received up to $ 5.00 per hour adjustment but the good old national unions opted for a buck or two at the most and sold it to the members as a major percentage increase and bragged about how hard they negotiated with the government to get this for the members. The truth is they made whatever deal they felt was reasonable and would sell; not what the actual amount equated to.
